Texarkana arts district calls for artistic proposals for downtown

Texarkana works hard to maintain the beautification of our downtown area. The Texarkana Arts & Historic District asks for your opinion on public art proposals. These will complement a series of outdoor found object sculptures that will be on display in downtown Texarkana called Bending the Rules III: George Tobolowsky & Friends Public Art Exhibition.

According to the press release, the proposals are expected to focus on celebrating Texarkana’s State Line Avenue and the junction of two states in the downtown district. Finished exhibits will be displayed around the Federal Courthouse and United States Post Office as well as the Veterans Memorial Park.

There will be a total of three chosen submissions, and each artist will have the opportunity to work with internationally renowned found object artist, George Toblowsky. Artists will be reimbursed up to $ 500 in material costs.

The deadline for submission is August 31, 2021. Questions and proposals can be sent to [email protected] or call (903) 798-1743.

This grant opportunity was offered by the Texas Commission on the Arts as a cultural district project. The award was part of a total grant to the Texarkana Arts & Historic District for $ 56,000 for improved signage and orientation in the Cultural District.
